The 2K22/9K22 Tunguska is a Russian tracked self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle used by the Consortium initially during the Oil Crisis.[1]
Overview
The 2K22/9K22 Tunguska was built for a main purpose: superior ground-to-air support. It's an excellent escort unit for ground forces or a typical second line of air defense for a base. It can also serve as anti-infantry support.
The Tunguska is not all that useful against the TFT. Though a perfect-counter to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, it is ineffective against other air units. The SA-7 on the other hand, is preferably the better anti-aircraft unit, since it just packs a better punch.
Background
The 2K22 Tunguska is a Russian tracked self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon armed with a surface-to-air gun and missile system.
It is designed to provide day and night protection for infantry and tank regiments against low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and cruise missiles in all weather conditions.
Development of the system started on 8 June 1970, at the request of the Soviet Ministry of Defence the KBP Instrument Design Bureau in Tula under the guidance of the appointed Chief Designer AG Shipunov started work on a 30 mm anti-aircraft system as a replacement for the 23 mm ZSU-23-4.
Upgrades
Extended radar and stealth detection Gives Tunguskas the ability to detect stealth air units, plus a 100 percent increase in detection and shooting range against all aircraft. |
